• A scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to the Youth Handler of the Year.
Handler points will be calculated in the same manner as other handler awards are
determined. The scholarship will be payable upon that student’s graduation from
high school and enrollment in an institution of higher learning.
• All youth trials must be advertised in The AMERICAN FIELD.
• Students must be 17 years and under to participate as a youth handler.
• Our season is considered October through April.
• Each handler may have one scout, but it must be an individual with amateur status.
The scout may be an adult but is not allowed to handle the dog.
• There is no requirement that the youth handler live in the Southeastern United States.
• Handlers will be limited to a maximum of two dogs in any one stake.
The dogs do not have to be owned by the handler or family member.
• Braces are limited to twenty minutes. Dogs are judged on gun dog standards with judgment
ending at flush. Failure to remain steady to wing and shot will not disqualify dog or handler.
• Judges will use their discretion in the assessment of youth’s abilities, allowing help with
mounting, ponying, flushing, shooting and any other area of safety concern.
• No more than five youth stakes each year will be run. We would suggest that the stake be held
at the conclusion of a regular trial, possibly a Sunday afternoon. This may give the youth an
opportunity to ride, watch and interact with other handlers at the trial.
